I'm Lachlan.
I'm originally from Sydney, Australia and trained as a pianist, chamber musician and vocal coach at The Juilliard School and the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to my private coaching and teaching work, I'm a member of the opera faculty at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (NJ), and have worked on the staff &/or faculty at the Met, Juilliard, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Castleton Festival, Chautauqua Institution, Internationale Meistersinger Akademie (Germany), International Vocal Arts Institute (Tel Aviv), Music Academy International (Italy) & Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and as a conductor with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
I've had the incredible opportunity of working with artists such as James Levine, Richard Bonynge, Renata Scotto, Carol Vaness, Susan Graham, Stephen Lord, Edo de Waart and Sir Thomas Allen, and continue to have the ongoing pleasure of collaborating with many of today's finest singers on concert and recital stages around the world - and in my coaching studio!

My years of experience as a répétiteur have given me an intimate knowledge of standard repertory operas, and I have strong skills in German, French, Italian and English lyric diction. I have also played at one time or another for all the major voice teachers here in NYC and thereby developed my own understanding of vocal technique as well as an awareness of what is being taught, and a knowledge of basic stage technique through my work with many renowned stage directors.
I'm equally at home in art song repertoire, having coached and performed well over 1500 songs by composers from Schubert and Brahms to Charles Ives and Jonathan Dove.
My work as a coach leverages the extensive personal and professional network I have built over my 10+ years in New York, which includes artist managers, stage directors and voice teachers, as well as administrators at all major opera houses, Young Artist Programs and conservatories in the USA and many abroad. My clients and students are regularly invited to participate in leading Young Artist Programs and featured at major concert halls and opera houses around the world, such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro La Fenice and even the Sydney Opera House (my hometown!).
